Joaquin and Lalou hit the ground running as a team with a pair of gold award-winning spots for Nike. They went on to create for some of the most recognized brands in the world, earning a reputation as master storytellers who glimpse humanity with visual beauty and emotional restraint. Accolades continued to follow at the AICP, Andy’s, Clios, Addys and Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival (IAF), along with the prestigious Directors Guild of America nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials.
Joaquin began directing after a highly regarded cinematography career that was launched when he shot the Oscar-nominated short film, “The Lady in Waiting”, while still a student at NYU Film School. Soon after, he brought his striking visual style and impeccable technique to an array of award-winning commercial and narrative projects including Director of Photography on such acclaimed films as Dylan Kidd’s “Roger Dodger” and “PS,” Mike Mill’s feature debut, “Thumbsucker,” and James Gray’s acclaimed “We Own the Night” and “Two Lovers,” as well as the cult comedy classic “Super Troopers.”
Lalou jumped straight into producing films after graduating from Princeton University with a degree in East Asian Studies. Her debut film won multiple awards at film festivals worldwide. She followed with a spate of award-winning independent films and documentaries, where she honed her skills as a creative producer. In 2006 Lalou teamed up with Joaquin to form a creative partnership that blends the skills of directing, producing, cinematography and photography.
